      1. I’m in NYC on subway watching homeless people; some aren’t playacting. Getting over the fumes, ignoring the nonexistent hygiene, and starting a dialogue is kind. Offering your uneaten food you just waited on line for. Kind. Also, kind of hard. Easier to give money and walk away.

  1. If you look at all that kindness must ignore to be successful, you see the steel spine glowing. Saw it in Mother Teresa all of the time, on television.
